Elevating The Everyday - Chapter Two

Welcome back to my Elevating The Everyday series — where we take those go-to, basic outfits and give them a little extra polish. Because let’s be honest, most of us live in our jeans, trainers, and simple tops. But it’s those subtle styling choices, the clever layering, and the right accessories that turn a forgettable outfit into one you actually get complimented on in the supermarket queue.

Today’s look is one of my favourites because it’s built entirely on those dependable, comfy pieces we all have knocking around in our wardrobes — but it looks like it belongs on a Pinterest board. And the best part? It’s so easy to recreate.

Let’s break down why this outfit works so well.

First up, the foundation pieces. A pair of light-wash, wide-leg jeans (these ones are Primark, would you believe it?) are endlessly flattering and give a laid-back 90s feel. The loose shape balances out the more structured elements in the outfit, like the neutral, thrifted blazer. And here’s a little styling tip: always size up in your blazers or borrow one from your partner’s wardrobe. The slightly oversized fit gives it that relaxed, effortless vibe rather than looking too corporate.

Underneath, I’ve gone for a simple cream roll-neck sweater vest — also thrifted. It’s minimal but brings a touch of texture and warmth to the look. Plus, it acts as a great neutral base to let the accessories and outer layers do the talking.

Now, onto those clever, understated touches that take this from everyday to elevated.

Brown sunglasses paired with a matching woven leather shoulder bag are what make this outfit feel pulled together. Coordinating your accessories — even subtly — instantly gives a sense of thoughtfulness. The leather texture of the bag adds a luxe edge, while the woven detail keeps it relaxed and summery.

And, of course, no look of mine would be complete without a good pair of trainers. These oat-coloured New Balance kicks (also thrifted) keep the outfit grounded and practical. They add to the laid-back aesthetic while ensuring it stays wearable for whatever the day throws at you.

Why it works: it’s all about mixing high-low elements and playing with texture. The crispness of the blazer against soft denim, the luxe feel of leather against cotton, and the relaxed shapes balanced by structured layers. It’s casual but considered.

This is proof that you don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe to elevate your everyday style. Chances are, you’ve got variations of these pieces already. It’s about how you wear them together, how you layer them, and those little styling tweaks — like matching accessories or throwing a blazer over your comfiest jeans — that change the whole feel of a look.

So go on, have a dig through your wardrobe. I bet you can recreate this with what you already own.
